Regional component of the national history, where the history of Eastern Kazakhstan is the main object of study will become a priority direction of scientific activity of Ch.Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology Branch. To accomplish the objectives, the following research areas were identified:
Eastern Kazakhstan: Past, Present and Future
Eastern Kazakhstan belongs to important regional sites of historical research. Regional history is one of the promising directions of Kazakhstan's historical science. In terms of independent development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the process of developing regional history is the most intense. Studying actual problems of history of individual regions of Kazakhstan sets the tone for the political development of Kazakhstan, affects national consciousness, forms values, citizenship and develops empathy towards small homeland, patriotism and love for the Fatherland.
Historiography and source studies of the history of Eastern Kazakhstan
Comprehensive study of the history of Eastern Kazakhstan determines an objective assessment of the past, that cannot be done without using the sources and historiography. Recent methodological approaches initiate new reading of the sources and documents, covering the history of East Kazakhstan, their classification and cataloging, and accordingly, new methods and techniques in their treatment.
Features of the development of East Kazakhstan in terms of sovereignty (ethno-social aspect)
In East Kazakhstan, many ethnic groups intermix, indicating the complex system of interaction of many powerful cultures, each with its own national idea, a kind of hierarchy of ethnic and cultural values. We cannot forget about the borderline region, with constantly plying migration flows. Relevance of the study of this area determines the research to identify innovative trends of demographic development of the Eastern Region in the ethno-social aspect, in the analysis of the dynamics of changes in the ethno-social structure of the population.
Ethnic and cultural heritage of East Kazakhstan
East Kazakhstan is a unique region of Central Asia on the border with Russia, China and Mongolia. Archaeological sources reasonably suggest that the ancient inhabitants of this region were skilled craftsmen - metallurgists, builders, potters, jewelers, woodcarvers, painters.
Culture – is a vast concept that brings together a wide range of disciplines: ethics, science, language and art. Ethnic and cultural heritage embodies spiritual continuity, connection of times, generations and traditions of statehood on the territory of East Kazakhstan.
East Kazakhstan and neighboring regions in the global socio-economic, political and cultural transformations
"Kazakhstan is now the focus of the communication flow between Europe and Asia. Our task – is to use this unique geopolitical position in the interests of our country and international community "- said President N.A. Nazarbayev.
From this perspective, strengthening good-neighborly relations between the Eastern Kazakhstan and neighboring regions in the Greater Altai is of crucial importance not only for the life of its peoples, but also for the development of geopolitical, economic and cultural regional cooperation throughout the Eurasian region.
